3rd IChemE Asia Pacific Sports & NACES 2011

Greetings from IChemE@UTP.

First and foremost, we from IChemE@UTP would like to wish everyone, although a tiny bit late, a Merry Christmas ! We hoped that you had a safe journey back to your hometowns and had a wonderful time with your family.

It's finally year end of the year 2011 and my, did IChemE@UTP had a wonderful ride this year.

UTP had recently participated at the 3rd IChemE Asia Pacific Students Sports and Career Day on 1st October 2011 at Monash University, Sunway Campus in collaboration with IChemE Malaysia.

Whilst producing a new generation of well rounded Chemical Engineers, as per laid out by the guidelines by UTP management, it is also imperative that we must not only be good technically and knowledgeable wise, but as well in the form of physical condition.

And with that, IChemE@UTP decided to send out a total of 50 participants, competing against 8 universities from Malaysia and Singapore.

In the absence of many IChemE@UTP, we were still able to manage quite a feat indeed.

1) Futsal Female - GOLD
2) Bowling - GOLD
3) DoTA - SILVER
4) Netball - SILVER
5) Badminton Men's Singles - SILVER

No doubt, this is one very satisfactory result we are very proud to show off to.

Hint: See the word DoTA? *wink wink *

As for the more recent news lately, which is starting to gain more popularity is the incredible achievements garnered by none other than IChemE@UTP members too !

The National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES) 2011 was hosted at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) from the 16th to 18th December 2011, with UTPians up against 13 higher learning institutions including Universiti Sebelas Maret, Indonesia and Curtin University of Technology.

Fortunately, the theme organized by NACES this year goes along with the theme "Sustainable Development", with hopes that current Chemical Engineers are able to tackle and resolve current depletion of resources as well as increment of serious degree of climate condition worldwide.

Participating in a total of three competitions, mainly Technical Plant Design Competition, Technical Essay Writing Competition and Technical Case Study Competition, with a total of 12 participants from UTP, we were yet able to achieve another astounding feat with the results of :

Technical Plant Design Competition - Champion , RM1500 Cash Prize

Syed Osama Bukhari
Hon Lian Hung
Mohamad Syazwan bin Ahmad Zubir
Dhanaraj a/l Turunawarasu

Technical Case Study (Representative from each university) -

Champion (Ng Tze Yi) , RM1000 Cash Prize
First Runner Up (Chong Kar Yeen), RM800 Cash Prize
2nd Runner Up (Yong Jenn) , RM600 Cash Prize

Individual Prizes , Cash Prize RM150 -

Yong Jenn
Lok Chen Chuang

Indeed, this a great way to end year 2011 with a big bang with astonishing results !

Looking back, we had achieved marvelous results with our ever growing society, ICheme@UTP in UTP.

Let's continue this gallant run in the year 2012 where UTP will be hosting a brand new generation of  ChExposium 2012, a monstrous event which will definitely knock your socks off !

Look forward to it !

Cheers  ~

CSR 2011 – Buka Puasa With The Orphans

First of all, a big round of applause to those who had contributed to make this year’s CSR a success~~!!

*clap clap*

For this year’s CSR, a trip to an orphanage namely, Pusat Jagaan Anak-Anak  Yatim & Miskin Nurul Iman, was carried out.

DSC06411

See those packets of rice? (IChemE members look good carrying them )

Yeap. . . We at IChemE@UTP had donated some rice for them as a sign of charity. And that’s just a start of the contribution we’re gonna give to the orphans.

A series of game activites were carried out non other than our cute member, Alvin Chan~

DSC06456

One of the games conducted was a simple game of memory and also a tiny bit of drawing skills.

DSC06445

Try drawing that!

The orphans were required to memorize the weird creatures given (=.=||) and draw them.

DSC06444

Not only that, they also have to relay the same exact thing they remembered to the person behind them. Tough?

It is!

DSC06452

Then there was some chit chatting and ice-breaking to do as well.

It’s amazing how all kind of people from walks of life are able to enjoy each other’s company like the one’s below.

DSC06430

Kage Bushin no Jutsu!

DSC06431

* silence *

DSC06432

Ming Yih: * phail. . . . . . *

OK. . . Maybe that wasn’t a good example.

BUT!

DSC06471DSC06521

At least the orphans were happy right?

It’s nice to see them smile and aren’t they just so darn cute they you could just squeeze their cheeks?

DSC06490

My my ~~ What do we have here?

And it’s not what you think it is.

It’s a game where everyone hold hands and closes their eyes. When a coin is flipped, if it’s head, a signal needs to be passed to the next person by grabbing their hand tight until the last person, the last person however, must quickly grab the tennis ball in front of them after received the signal, and the will get 1 mark. However, if it’s tail, no signal was passed, and ball was grabbed, you lost!

After a whole afternoon of laughter, night finally falls and it’s time to break fast for the Muslims.

DSC06543

Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal, no doubt.

Last but not least, we would like to thank everyone for participating in this small yet meaningful event.

    DSC06569

Without everyone’s effort, this CSR couldn’t be much happier

=)

GOOD LUCK FOR YOUR FINALS PEEPS =D

Dean List Award Ceremony 2011

This year’s Dean List Award Ceremony 2011 has been a simple yet filled with significance, especially to those who were privileged in having the Dean’s List.

Even though carried out in just a common place, but the significance behind it was even greater.

_DSC1818

Welcoming speech by the President of ICheme@UTP

As such, it has always been a tradition for ICheme@UTP all this while to organise this award ceremony  exclusively to the Chemical Engineering Department.

_DSC1844

The Head of Department of Chemical Engineering Department

Many wonder why there is such a need to do so.

Simple.

We from ICheme@UTP wanted those who had worked hard over the past semester to be recognised, not just by yourself, but by others as well.

_DSC1855

Presentation of the Dean’s List certificate

For those who failed or are just a tiny winy bit away from the Dean’s List, afraid not.

As quoted from Dr Shuhaimi (HOD of Che. Eng. Department),

“To those who failed to acquired Dean’s List, look up to your friends who succeeded and make them as your role model to achieve even greater heights.”

  _DSC1827

There is always a next time for you to try harder to obtain a GPA of 3.5 and above.

When there’s a will, there’s a way.

We from ICheme@UTP would like to apologise for any confusion ( if they were ) to the recipients on that day.

Hint:

Next year’s Dean List Award Ceremony will be a much more grander scale than you can ever imagine. Start working hard now! =P

ChemeCar Selection Results

First of all, I wanna wish everyone. . . .

congratulations_party-2309 It’s finally the end of the ChemeCar selection process.

All participants had worked hard for it and it does not matter whether you book a place in the top 6 or not.

The important thing is that you have tried hard and that is all what mattered.

No matter, try hard in everything you do. Preparation is very much emphasized.

“The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.”

- H. Jackson Brown, Jr-

I believe most of you knew who had secured a place in the top 6 right?

Here’s a proof if you do not believed it.

________________________________________________________________

Dear winner teams,

Congratulation to your team for securing a place in Top Six teams to compete in the Internal Chem-E Car Competition which will be held on February 2012 tentatively. We have judged your team based on power mechanism, stopping mechanism, design creativity, environmental and safety, quality of presentation slides and team member presentation.

Below is the team who qualify into Internal Chem-E Car Competition: (It is listed in no particular order)

1. C.L.I.V. (Team Leader: CHONG WIN SIN)

2. Garuda 007 (Team Leader: HOR JUN YOU)

IChemE Orientation Day 2011 ~Success~

Konichiwa world~~~

How’s your day today?

Yes, I know, the weather in UTP is friggin’ hot lately. But it’s super cooling on the mornings though >.<

So, just to update you all.

We just finish one of our campaigns, Orientation Day, yesterday and from the turnouts, we from IChemE UTP, are astounded by the response given by you all.

*clap clap*

Those who didn’t attend certainly missed out a bunch of great advise that you all really ought to practise.

So, here’s just a small recap of what happened yesterday.

DSC06177-1

So the MC of the day, Mr Shafiq, who helped us out with his flawless London slang English. WOOT~~

DSC06180-1

The opening speech by our one and only, Miss Eng, the President of IChemE UTP!! *clap clap*

And without further ado, the HOD of Chemical Engineering Department himself, turned out for the event and gave a motivational talk to all who were present.

DSC06202-1

He mentioned about students from the CHE Department having a dip in performance a couple of semesters back.

So what’s the problem guys? Anything you all wanna share?

We promised not to tell the HOD ~~ >.<

We even lose to the so called toughest department in UTP, EE Department, when it comes to terms with the Dean’s List category.

So, buff up guys. We are determined to make a NEW CHANGE with this NEW GENERATION of chemical engineers ^ ^

DSC06232-1

So, next is a talk by one of our senior lecturer Dr. Suriati. She talked mostly on the curriculum structure too.

DSC06261-1

And I could frankly say that, the handsome guy above, was the best speaker of the day.

Mr Kuhan talked about his experiences in UTP, his Student Exchange Programme abroat at the States, his internship life and also last but not least, his Final Year’s experiences.

His session was filled with laughter throughout from the start till the end, and those who missed this, certainly missed out lots of things to be put in good use in undergrad’s life.

The event ended with prize giving to all speakers.

DSC06278-1

DSC06277-1

      DSC06276-1

On behalf of IChemE UTP, we would like to thank you all for your time in contributing for the day’s event.

It would not be perfect if it weren’t for you all.

Thank you.

So, in the nutshell (yes, I know, UTPians love to use this phrase when concluding everything ), everything went well, the audiences were happy, the speakers were happy and the President IS STILL happy-ing. >.<

Good job everyone ! d^ ^b

MMK Ended Already??!!

Hey peeps~~

Enjoyed your 3 days of MMK in UTP this week?

I’m sure most of the committee enjoyed the time they get to take care of the booth right? Right? RIGHT???!!!

>.<

DSC06072

You know what, I think IChemE UTP’s booth was one of the hot attractions among the MMK booths.

DSC06066

Our booths just kept on attracting people over and over again on the first day. It’s like Parkson and Jusco having a 90% Mega Sales off on all items ^ ^”

And guess what?

Shocker of the week:

DSC06046

More than 30 students had registered their name for the workshop for this year’s ChemeCar.

You know what?

You all kick ass (literally).

Looks like ChemeCar is well received mostly by Foundation students. A big pat on the shoulders for the committees working hard to promote this huge event.

It’s gonna be a tough fight within UTPians with that many participants joining. Awesome~ ! !

DSC06075    Mind you, the ping pong balls are hard to “chopsticked” out.

No matter how tough your road is, as long as you keep on trying, you’ll eventually owned it.

Again, hope you enjoyed the 3 days of MMK in UTP.

Till then~~

Monday, June 13, 2011

MMK Weekend ! ! !

Calling all Chemical Engineers in UTP.

It's that time of the semester again.

It's Minggu Mesra Kampus all over again. Yes, you did not read it wrong.

MMK is in town~~

So what are you waiting for?

Come visit our booths for attractive games and activities to be won!!

Let's see what's in store for all of you :

(a) Clear Ping Pong ball
(b) Guessing Ingredients
(c) Dart

Not to mention, you can also check out our booths for more details regarding IChemE membership, IChemE Asia Pacific Sports Carnival and ChemeCar if you are still doubting yourself over the details in your head.

Hope to see you all tomorrow =D

~~Aal iz well~~

IChemE Family Day and Stuffs

Hey peeps~~ Looks like 3rd week is already coming to an end. Enjoyed yourself enough yet? >.<

We had had IChemE first Family Day of the semester the other night and it was great.

2011-06-08 17.55.52

Committee members arrived early (around 5 to 6 something perhaps?) to set up the “apparatus and materials” needed for the experiment BBQ session LOL

2011-06-08 17.56.05

To my surprise, most of the committee members turned out on time or even possibly earlier for helping out the committees in charge too. YAY~~

So much for the Malaysian time in UTP ( say, a meeting’s is to start at 8, but in the UTP, it’s scheduled to start half an hour later than the promised time O.O|| )

Good job peeps! This is are the traits IChemE committees needed.

Punctuality.

So, people, continue this good attitude ya =)

So, when almost everything starts settling down, what are you all waiting for? It’s CHOW TIME!!

2011-06-08 19.35.46

We had bi hun, BBQ Chicken, sausages, ice-cream, toasts, and other sort of foods served that night.

Yes, you might be thinking, “It’s the typical-UTP-BBQ-session-food-maaaahhh”.

WRONG!

Because, the President of IChemE herself marinated the chickens,

2011-06-08 19.08.46

and also helped out with preparing the other ingredients as well too.

So what do we all say??

~~ THANK YOU ~~

   2011-06-08 19.30.04

The night was continued with gifts exchanges between committees (I gave a shuttlecock away >.<) , eating, playing Mafia game, and even more eating.

I think we fed these people to obesity that night. LOL

At the end of the day, still, we have to thank all the committees in charge and other committees who had helped for making that night a fantabulous and tummy-full one ^ ^

Rock on people ! =D
